Miccosukee Volunteer Fire Rescue is a proud, all-volunteer department protecting northeast Leon County. Every call—from medical emergencies and structure fires to wildland incidents and water rescues—is answered by dedicated locals like you. Volunteering isn't just about fighting fires; it's about making a real difference in your community, gaining life-saving skills, building lifelong friendships, and serving the neighbors who count on us when seconds matter. Volunteering with Miccosukee Volunteer Fire Rescue lets you respond to 500+ local calls a year, making a real difference for your neighbors. We provide free training (Firefighter I/II, BLS/CPR, wildland, rescue, medical) and flexible on-call shifts that fit your life. Requirements to Join

Florida state law and our department standards require:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Pass a background check (FDLE Level 2, no disqualifying felonies)
  • A good moral character
  • Physically fit (physical exam required for live burn)
  • Willing to complete required training (Firefighter I/II, Wildland Firefighter (S-130/190) Emergency Medical Responder (EMR))
  • Attend ongoing BLS and fire training (mostly evenings/weekends)

No prior experience needed—we train everyone from the ground up!
